The Women In Africa (WIA) Initiative has officially launched its call for applications for the fifth edition of the WIA Young Leaders Program 2025. This prestigious program is dedicated to identifying, supporting, and promoting the next generation of African women leaders who are actively shaping the continent’s future.

Since its inception in 2021, the WIA Young Leaders Program has empowered 33 exceptional African women who have gone on to create significant impact in their respective fields. The initiative seeks to provide a platform for young women from Africa who demonstrate leadership potential, resilience, and a strong commitment to driving inclusive and innovative development.

About the Program

The WIA Young Leaders Program plays a pivotal role in advancing gender equity and inclusive development across Africa. The initiative is designed to equip emerging female leaders with the tools, networks, and exposure they need to amplify their influence and unlock opportunities to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s economic, social, and cultural transformation.

Program Benefits

Selected candidates will receive a comprehensive support package, fully funded by the WIA Initiative. Benefits include:

Candidate Eligibility

The program is open to women who meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Between 25 and 40 years old (flexibility may be allowed based on relevant experience).
  • Nationality: Must be born in an African country or have at least one parent born in Africa.
  • Languages: Fluency in at least one of the following languages is desirable: English, French, or Portuguese.
  • Leadership Traits: Candidates must demonstrate humility, empathy, resilience, and a commitment to Africa’s long-term development.
  • Professionalism: Must be self-made, capable of handling responsibilities at a high level, and actively involved in African-focused initiatives.
  • Vision: A clearly articulated personal or professional mission aligned with the goal of building a dynamic and inclusive African future.

The 2025 program will follow a structured timeline:

  • Call for Applications: May 19 – June 19, 2025
  • Application Review and Selection: June – July 2025
  • Interviews with International Jury Panel: July – August 2025
  • Announcement of Cohort: September 2025
  • Learning Expedition to Paris: November – December 2025
