Media Personality Lelo N Shines Spotlight on African Women
Johannesburg-In a bold move to celebrate and empower women across the continent, media personality and businesswoman Lelo Tabane, popularly known as Lelo N, has launched the WOW Africa 50 Women Honours Circle. This new platform puts the focus on African women who are making big changes in fields like business, leadership, culture, media, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. It comes at a time when more people are talking about the need for women to take charge and build lasting wealth in Africa.
The launch, which happened recently, is already creating buzz. It shows Lelo N’s commitment to lifting up women who lead with strength and purpose. Raised in Tembisa from humble beginnings, Lelo N has built a career that inspires many. She started with simple roots but grew into a real estate strategist, business coach, and brand ambassador for various companies. Her work often centres on teaching financial skills and opening doors for others to own their futures.
The Vision Behind WOW Africa 50 Women Honours Circle
The WOW Africa 50 Women Honours Circle is not just an award list. It is a carefully planned space for women to connect, share ideas, and work together. Founded under the Workshops of Wealth ecosystem and backed by the Lelo N Foundation, the initiative aims to build ownership, grow leadership skills, improve access to opportunities, and create wealth that lasts for generations across Africa.
Lelo N explains the heart of the project in her own words: “WOW Africa 50 Women is intentional. We are building a circle of women who will collaborate across sectors and actively drive wealth creation, access and ownership at a continental level.” This quote captures the drive behind it all. The platform looks for women with real influence, strong credibility, and a reach that touches many parts of the continent.
What makes this different is its focus on quiet power and real impact. It honours women whose work shapes industries and leaves a legacy. The selection process is strict, based on leadership, trustworthiness, and how relevant their contributions are to Africa’s growth. So far, 26 women have been chosen through an internal review. There are still a few spots left to make up the full 50 for the 2026 group. Women who feel their work fits can submit their profiles by 7 January 2026, including a summary of their impact and a professional photo.
Highlighting the Honourees: Trailblazers from Diverse Fields
The honourees come from different backgrounds, showing the wide range of African women’s talents. Among them is Fatima Packery, known for her work in business and community upliftment. Norma Mngoma stands out in leadership and public service, while Gugu Khathi brings her skills in entertainment and entrepreneurship to the circle.
Dr Chanita Foster, a leader in healthcare and social development, adds her expertise in helping communities thrive. Lenore Goss-Matjies inspires with her focus on education and empowerment, transforming spaces and lifting others up. Award-winning Amapiano star Lady Du represents the vibrant world of music and culture, using her platform to motivate young people.
Other notable names include Ms Tumi Nakedi, who excels in business strategy and innovation, and Dr Vivian Mokone, a key figure in medical advancements and women’s health. These women were picked because their journeys show substance, influence, and real contributions. They are not just achievers; they are changemakers who push for better ownership and economic growth
.
The circle is like a statement of excellence. It is not about loud announcements but about consistent actions that move Africa forward. As more profiles come in, the group will grow to include even more voices from across the continent, covering areas like real estate, technology, and social change.
Lelo N’s Journey: From Humble Roots to Global Recognition
Lelo N’s own story adds depth to this initiative. Born and raised in Thembisa, she faced challenges early on but turned them into fuel for success. She overcame personal hurdles, like dealing with anger from not having a father figure, and worked hard to rewrite her story. Today, she is a programme host, marketing expert, and leader in real estate.
Her Lelo N Foundation plays a big role in the WOW Africa project. The foundation works on education, youth growth, and building economies that last. It makes sure that empowerment reaches beyond one person to help whole communities. Lelo N’s focus on financial literacy has helped many learn how to manage money and build wealth.
Recently, her efforts got big recognition. She won the Icon of African Economic Advancement award at the sixth Iconic Global Summit & Honors 2025, held at The Capital on the Park in Sandton. This put her among 100 global change makers who are shaping Africa’s economy. On top of that, she is set to appear in an upcoming Netflix documentary on female empowerment. This feature will share her story with a worldwide audience, highlighting how African women are breaking barriers.
These milestones show Lelo N’s growth from local beginnings to international stages. She uses her experiences to coach others, serve as a brand ambassador, and push for better access in business and media.
The Exclusive Gathering and Future Expansions
The WOW Africa 50 Women Honours Circle will come together at an intimate event on 7 March 2026 in Morningside, Sandton. This closed-door gathering will bring honourees, partners, and invited leaders for talks and teamwork. It is designed to spark real collaborations that lead to wealth creation and ownership.
Looking ahead, the vision is even bigger. The project will grow into WOW Africa 100, bringing in more women to the circle. There are also plans for WOW Africa 50 Men, to include male leaders in the push for continental progress. These expansions aim to create a stronger network that supports Africa’s next era of influence and legacy.
Submissions for the remaining spots are open via email or WhatsApp, but they must meet high standards. The process ensures only those with true impact join.
Lasting Impact on African Leadership and Wealth Creation
This launch by Lelo N is more than an event; it is a step towards a new chapter for African women. By focusing on leadership without fanfare and excellence earned through hard work, WOW Africa 50 sets a high standard. It encourages women to claim their space in business, culture, and beyond.
As Africa faces challenges like economic gaps and limited access, initiatives like this offer hope. They build circles of support where women can share knowledge, overcome obstacles, and create lasting change. Lelo N’s work, from her foundation to her media roles, shows how one person’s vision can lift many.
In the end, WOW Africa 50 Women Honours Circle is about acknowledging legacy and naming excellence. It reminds us that African women are already shaping the future – deliberately, quietly, and powerfully. With more honourees to be added and events on the horizon, this platform is set to inspire generations.
